Interstate 82 Exit 33A Yakima Landfill Amendment to Interim Action Work Plan Public Comment Period
Ecology has information to share with you about the cleanup of pollution in your community. Work is being planned for a highway expansion through the Interstate 82 Exit 33A Yakima City Landfill and the Boise-Cascade Mill sites, located next to Interstate 82 in Yakima. Development of this land requires cleanup of the contaminated site in order to protect the health of the community.
These sites share an industrial history, and activities at both properties contributed to the contamination of the shared soil and groundwater. Many harmful chemicals were found including heavy metals, diesel, gasoline, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, solvents, and benzene in the soil, groundwater, and/or surface water near the sites.
The workplan for the cleanup of the area where the highway is planned is available from May 4 through June, 2026 for you to give us feedback.
After the work plan is finalized further cleanup activities and highway construction will be able to continue.
